Guide
Monolever understand
What is the Monolever swingarm?
With the R80 G/S, BMW introduced the Monolever single-sided swingarm in 1980: a single swingarm houses the driveshaft, with a shock absorber positioned on the right. From 1984 onwards, this principle was applied to the R80, R65, and later the R100 RS/RT, as well as the K75 and K100. The result: fewer parts, easier wheel changes, and a modern, clean look at the rear.

Monolever as a base for customization
Monolever models are usually a bit more affordable than the sought-after twin-shock classics and offer greater riding comfort. Ideal for everyday roadster and scrambler builds. Important: Rear-end and suspension parts are specifically designed for the single-sided swingarm.
The most important Monolever parts
- Rear frame & seat kits with TÜV approval, for 1 or 2 people.
- Cardan-mounted license plate holders – side or center-mounted, for a completely clean rear end.
- SE Performance Line shock absorbers with ABE in matching lengths.
- Bobber 2-in-2 exhaust with ABE.
- Engine guard bars, footrest relocation kits, and chassis components.
FAQ
Questions about Monolever
Can't find your question? Use our parts inquiry form – we will respond personally.
What is the difference between Monolever and Paralever?
Do Monolever parts fit Boxer and K models?
Not automatically. There are specific parts for the Boxer and for the K-Monolever models. The product titles indicate the compatible models – for example, "R65 R80 R100 Monolever" or "K75 K100 Monolever".
Do the Monolever shock absorbers have an ABE?
Yes, our SE Performance Line shock absorbers are supplied with an ABE (General Operating Permit), so no registration is required.
Can I relocate the license plate holder on the Monolever?
Ja. Mit unseren Kennzeichenträgern am Kardan sitzt das Kennzeichen seitlich oder mittig an der Schwinge – das Heck bleibt komplett frei.
