Guide
The BMW Scrambler
What defines a scrambler
Scramblers were originally street motorcycles that were modified for off-road use. Typical features include a wide, high handlebar, a flat, long seat, knobby tires, short fenders, and often a high-mounted exhaust. The result: an upright riding position, plenty of control, and a bold look.
BMW Scrambler profile
| Handlebars | wide tubular handlebars, upright seating position |
|---|---|
| Seat | flat and long, 550–600 mm |
| Tires | knobby, often wider |
| Best base | GS (Paralever), R80 / R100 Monolever |
| Exhaust | often high-mounted |
| Registration | tail kits and handlebars with TÜV certification |
The best base for a BMW scrambler
The GS with its long suspension travel is the most authentic. However, the R80 and R100—especially as Monolever or Paralever models—also make for powerful scramblers.
The most important scrambler parts
- Scrambler seats 550 and 600 mm, 1 or 2-person, with or without a step.
- Tail conversion kits with TÜV approval for Monolever, Twinshock, and Paralever models.
- High tubular handlebars with TÜV approval.
- Short fenders and license plate holders on the final drive.
- Spacers for wider knobby tires.
FAQ
Questions about Scrambler
Can't find your question? Use our parts inquiry form – we will respond personally.
Do I need a GS for a scrambler?
Nicht unbedingt. Die GS ist ideal fürs Gelände, aber für den Scrambler-Look auf der Straße eignen sich R80 und R100 genauso gut.
Can I simply install knobby tires?
Nur in den eingetragenen Größen. Andere Größen müssen geprüft und eingetragen werden. Für breitere Reifen hinten bieten wir Distanzscheiben an.
Which bench length is the right one?
550 mm wirkt kompakter und eignet sich für eine Person, 600 mm bietet Platz für zwei. Wichtig ist, dass Heckrahmen und Sitzbank zusammenpassen.
Do you build complete scramblers?
Yes – take a look at our Scrambler Concept Bikes.
