Guide
Twinshock understand
What "Twinshock" means for BMW
Twinshock refers to the classic rear suspension with a dual-sided swingarm and two shock absorbers. BMW used this design from the /5 series in 1969 until the mid-80s – from the R45 and R65 to the R75 and R90, and up to the R80/7 and R100. Visually, it is the most purist foundation: an open frame with a clear view of the transmission and driveshaft.

Why Twinshock is the #1 café racer base
The continuous rear frame can be neatly shortened or replaced, and the two shock absorbers provide that typically slim silhouette. With a rear conversion kit, you can create a completely new look in no time – whether as a Café Racer, Bobber, or Roadster.
The most important twin-shock parts
- Rear frames & rear conversion kits with TÜV approval for 1 and 2 persons.
- Side-mount license plate holders and battery boxes for rear mounting.
- 36 mm triple trees with TÜV approval for clip-on or tubular handlebars.
- Sport brake discs for the ATE swinging caliper.
- Fender kits in high and low versions, shock absorbers in pairs.
FAQ
Questions about Twinshock
Can't find your question? Use our parts inquiry form – we will respond personally.
How do I know if my BMW is a twin-shock model?
Ganz einfach: Hat dein Hinterrad links und rechts je ein Federbein, ist es ein Twinshock. Monolever und Paralever haben nur ein einziges Federbein auf der rechten Seite.
Do Twinshock parts fit all Twinshock models?
Many do – rear frames, license plate holders, and battery boxes are often designed for R45 to R100 models. For brakes and triple clamps, it depends on the model year. The product titles always list all compatible models.
Are the Twinshock rear frames eligible for registration?
Yes, our twin-shock subframes and rear conversion kits are supplied with a TÜV certificate. You can find more information on our conversion parts with TÜV page.
Which shock absorbers do you recommend for twin-shock setups?
This depends on weight, riding style, and seat height. The ideal length often changes after a tail conversion. We are happy to advise you via our parts inquiry form.
