Guide

The BMW K100 rebuild

The Flying Brick as a café racer

With the K100 in 1983, BMW introduced a longitudinally mounted, water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine for the first time. This distinctive block defines every custom build – hardly any other engine looks as technical and unique. Added to this are high performance and great durability. The K1100 (1991–1999) increased the displacement even further to 1,092 cc.

Monolever or Paralever?

The early K100 models have a Monolever swingarm, while the later K100 RS 4V, K1, and K1100 models feature a Paralever swingarm. This distinction is important for tail conversions, license plate holders, and shock absorbers – our product titles always specify which one it is.

  • Tail conversion kits with TÜV approval – our own kits as well as the JvB-Moto tail.

  • License plate bracket for the final drive for Monolever and Paralever.

FAQ

Questions about BMW K100 & K1100

Can't find your question? Use our parts inquiry form – we will respond personally.

Why is the K100 called the "Flying Brick"?

The longitudinally mounted four-cylinder engine looks like a brick from the side – hence the nickname. It is precisely this look that makes the K100 so striking as a café racer.

Do K100 parts fit the K1100?

Many parts yes, especially front and electrical components. For the rear and swingarm, it depends on whether a Monolever or Paralever is installed.

What is JvB Moto?

JvB Moto is a well-known manufacturer of K-model conversion parts. We carry a selection of JvB parts such as tail conversion kits, headlight masks, and radiator covers.

Do the K100 conversion parts have TÜV approval?

Unsere Heckumbau-Kits und viele weitere Teile werden mit TÜV-Gutachten oder ABE geliefert. Die Angaben stehen beim Produkt.

Do you build complete K100 café racers?

Yes, we build K-models entirely in our workshop. Take a look at our K75 & K100 Concept Bikes.
